For some reason, the word shenanigans popped into my head today, and I can’t let go of it. I don’t even know that what I did for my birthday could be called shenanigans, but I’m going to go with it!
Sharing a birthday weekend with the good old U S of A has some logistical problems. My festivities kicked off at 4:30am on Thursday, the day before my birthday. Can I just give a huge shout out to Marge’s Donut Den right now?? Oh, my word. Freshest donut ever! I had wanted to bring a treat into work on Thursday but was having a hard time deciding since whatever I did, I’d have to buy the night before because no one is open/serving homemade goodies at 4:30 in the morning when I’m heading to work. Or so I thought! I actually looked up Marge’s hours thinking I’d pick up some donuts at the end of the day Wednesday, but lo and behold, Marge, that beautiful, amazing woman, opens her shop up at 4am!
I seriously jumped for joy when I read that, and still placed my order Wednesday night to make it go faster, but I was able to stop by at 4:30am and be on my way with two dozen of the freshest, softest, most delicious donuts I’ve ever had. Pardon me while I wipe the drool off of my keyboard!
(Did you really think the donuts would last long enough for me to get a picture of them?? Hahaha)
After that delicious start, it should come as no surprise to anyone that my birthday weekend mainly consisted of food. Lunch and dinner plans on my actual birthday, a day of wandering and eating delicious BBQ on Saturday, and then Sunday was my family birthday dinner where we had delicious grilled chicken and cheesy potatoes. The weekend was capped off with my dad’s famous chocolate turtle cheesecake that I ended up eating for three days afterwards. All in all, a wonderful weekend full of delicious food, but more importantly, the best people.
I may have overindulged, but I also practiced more moderation and balance than I ever have before. Somehow over this last week I’ve evened back out and managed to survive the birthday shenanigans with no weight gain. Now that things are mostly back to normal, I’m hoping to really get back into some routines and work on some July goals to get me ready for Nashville!
I’m going to keep this one short because I’ve got other posts swimming in my head that need to get out, but I wanted to make sure I countered my last post with this one so that we all know I did have a great birthday despite some not so happy thoughts on getting older.
That’s all for now!
