Did everyone enjoy the warmer weather this weekend? Grand Rapids was in the 50’s. In February. The sun was shining, people were out washing their cars, and I was mostly inside with headaches and allergies. The end results are worth it though, and I promise I’ll get some pictures on here soon!
Piece by piece over the past few weeks, we (though, let’s be honest, mostly Dave) have been chipping away at some home repairs/improvements. Did I tell my, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie..” joke on here yet? Because I think I’ve told every single person I know by now. 😉 If you’re not familiar with it, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” is a book, part of a series of children’s books and the basic premise is the snowball effect. First, the cookie. Then the mouse will want milk, then this, then that, etc. etc. etc. It’s cute, and kind of perfectly describes what happened in our kitchen. Christmas weekend, Dave had the time and notion so we rather impulsively painted our kitchen.
One of our bathrooms is off the kitchen so then we decided to paint that. But first, Dave had to fix the wall, and while he was doing that, we decided to get a new medicine cabinet. With the cabinet came the new light fixture. With everything else updated, the trim needed to be done, but really, the floors should be redone before new trim goes up. Oh, and he painted the vanity and we got a new sink top for it.
So, new floors. That brings us up to this weekend, almost exactly two months after we painted the kitchen. We had a marathon weekend of putting the new floors in both the kitchen and the bathroom and I must say, they look great! Pictures to come, and a few smaller tasks such as transitions and trim still, but it’s almost a completed project. Which is good because for the floors, we’ve have the refrigerator in our dining room and the oven out in the garage so I’m excited to have a functional kitchen again! I didn’t even mention that one of our bathrooms is still out of commission until the renovation is finished. I’m so glad that when we bought this house, one of my deal breakers was having two bathrooms!!
Saturday while we were knee deep in tiles and grout, Lowe’s called to tell us that our new clothes washer and dryer were finally in store and ready to be delivered! Obviously, that would have been a logistics nightmare, so those got delivered today instead. That was our Christmas present to ourselves this year, along with contributions from our parents, and I’m really excited to have our very first brand new appliances. We have quite the assortment of hand-me-down furniture and appliances and we’re feeling adult-like with this latest purchase!
In other news, I have a library card again! A friend and I recently attended an event at the main Grand Rapids Public Library and both of us signed up for cards. As you recall from this post, most my books have been in digital form these days. Really, I just wanted the excuse to visit our beautiful library downtown more often.
Well folks, I’m sure this wasn’t the most exciting update I’ve ever given, but we haven’t been doing much outside of the work in the kitchen. Now that the dust and sawdust are settling (and my allergies hopefully relax as a result!), we’ll get back to our previously scheduled lives. So, until someone gives a moose a muffin, I’m getting back to my books!
