If you ask most people around here, Labor Day weekend is the last big summer weekend. Some, like my husband, are clinging to their summer activities and begging them not to go. If you read my last post, you already know how I feel about the subject.
Despite it being a short weekend for us, Dave and I went up to his parents place on Crystal Lake to cram as many things in as possible. As busy as we’ve both been with work and life, we hadn’t made it up this summer. While the home itself is relaxing, we were barely there as we hiked Bay View Trail and then went in to Frankfort for dinner at The Fusion and ice cream at The Scoop. These two places are staples in a trip up to the area for us. Dave usually stops at Stormcloud for a pint, but this time he opted to get a howler of mead from St Ambrose Cellars Meadery on our way home instead.
Stormcloud Brewing Company in Frankfort has live music pretty regularly, so we stopped for a quick listen. But honestly, can we talk about this ice cream??? The Scoop proudly serves Moomers ice cream, homemade in Michigan and oh so good! My choice for the night was Coconut Almond Delight and Peanut Butter No-Bake(which is exactly what it sounds like – peanut butter ice cream with hunks of homemade no bake cookies!). SO good!
While our weekend was short, we packed a lot in and had a lot of fun. My stack of books was left sitting on the nightstand so those will have to be attended to later this week, but we were able to get out, get moving, and then reward ourselves with some delicious food. That is definitely my kind of weekend and a good indication that September is off to a great start!
